October in New Orleans is a magical time. Just when we feel like we can’t possibly suffer another oppressively hot summer day, October sweeps in with the promise of change. Autumn seems to whisper to us in a breezy, sultry voice that her arrival is eminent and there is a feeling of anticipation in the air. The shift in the atmosphere is palpable. The light changes. Everything feels enchanted. Gold-flecked shadows stretch themselves long in the late afternoon sun and mystery lurks in the crevices of twilight. Halloween waits in the wings.
In New Orleans, we won’t get to see the showy display of Fall’s brilliant palette. Instead, we will enjoy a vibrant flurry of football games, fall festivals, parades and concerts.
Here are some of our favorites:
Oktoberfest, Art for Arts’ Sake, Beignet Fest, Tremé Fall Festival, New Orleans Film Festival (NOFF), Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival, Krewe of Boo, and of course the 20th annual Voodoo Music + Arts Experience.
With all of these colorful distractions we will hardly notice when winter has finally arrived at our doorstep.
